What Has Obama Accomplished?

In a spirit of bi-partisanship and to celebrate the one year anniversary of President Obama’s victory, I thought it would be nice to come up with a list of what I consider to be Obama’s top accomplishments since last November. So here are some of them, in no particular order. Feel free to add more.

  • In March, he miraculously managed to slither out of a very insensitive comparison that he made between his bowling skills and the Special Olympics on the Jay Leno show. The press quickly and gladly accepted his apology.
  • He managed to bring the decorum and prestige of the highest office in the land down a few notches by becoming the first sitting President to have appeared on the Jay Leno and David Letterman shows. And maybe down a few more notches now that we know about some of the skeletons in Letterman’s closet.
  • In July, he held the first ever ‘beer summit’ in the White House after comments he made about an altercation between a white police officer and a black professor set off a firestorm. The media loved it and Obama was off the hook again.
  • He has managed to snub Nicolas Sarkozy and Gordon Brown not just once but on multiple occasions by way of ridiculous gifts and ignoring them. But yet, he doesn’t mind cozying up to the likes of Hugo Chavez and accepting a book that insults America’s very existence.
  • He managed to snag the Nobel Peace Prize last month which is a partisan honor that he probably didn’t really want or need and certainly didn’t deserve. Isn’t Bill Clinton due up for one of those pretty soon?
  • He propelled radio talk king Rush Limbaugh to new heights in January when he told the Congressional GOP to turn off Limbaugh’s show. Some people just don’t get it. Talk show hosts feed off publicity, good or bad, as long as it doesn’t involve the FCC.
  • He made himself Brazil’s national hero of the year by personally going to Copenhagen and basically handing Rio the Olympic Games. Did you see that picture of a police helicopter burning up down there in Rio? I’m pretty sure I’d rather go to the Olympics in Chicago. Just saying…
  • He introduced a new tradition into the Saudi culture by bowing to King Abdullah – a gesture that is usually just reserved for the king’s subjects. Considering our dependency on Saudi oil, maybe we should all be bowing to King Abdullah.
