Was Is Worth It Defending Carrie Prejean?

Carrie

For a while, former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean seemed to be a rising star in the conservative arena. Her bold opposition to same-sex marriage excited many on the right – hearing our position on gay marriage from her  pretty lips was like a breath of fresh air.

And Perez Hilton’s childish temper tantrum about it later was just icing on the cake.

Today, CNN is reporting that the abrubt end to the legal battle between Prejean and the Miss USA pageant was “prompted by the revelation of a sex tape’, according to a source familiar with the lawsuits’ settlement.”

This latest revelation, of course, was not the first. Topless images of Prejean as well as other racy photos had already begun to emerge in May.

So – my fellow conservatives – Was defending Carrie Prejean worth it or did we prop her up on a pedestal a little too soon? Was it really a good idea to see her as our poster girl just because we salivated over a few sentences that she uttered at a beauty pageant?

We should have known better using a beauty queen to try to get our message across. What were we thinking?

And yes, I am sure that we can thank our good friends on the left for digging up these uncomplimentary images and video about Prejean.

That’s what they do best.

But if the allegations are true, then Prejean is a hypocrite and we all look like idiots.

The point is,  we can’t just go embracing every Tom, Dick, and Harry out there that says they are opposed to gay marriage. Maybe we should do a little of our own digging next time? Geez…

Memo to Carrie Prejean: Thanks for nothing. Oh, and about that new ‘tell-all’ book you’re touting? I hope it fails miserably even though I know it won’t because there are millions of guys out there just waiting to buy it so they can tear your photos out and do who knows what with them.

I’m not sure how defending the right to say “marriage should be between a man and a woman” is wrong based on who is saying it. Thats the problem with conservatives-unless their leaders or examples are 100% pure then they have to be tossed overboard. Liberals don’t have that problem. Liberals and their allies in the media can make a porn dealer like larry flint an American hero for standing up for his 1st amendment rights. God forbid a conservative has mistakes in their closet. Then they can nebver do right-they can never be a hero but can only be a hypocrite.

I guess I don’t see how she is a hypocrite unless she ran out and “married” a girl after answering the question she was asked at the pageant.

God knows if the issue pits her vs the leftists idiots I am going to be on her side.

dont see how she was a hyporcrite? ok let the one she says was talking to her during her “opposite” marriage speech has to say about it:

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the … Read Morelog in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.” (Matthew 7:1-5 RSV)

Let’s see what was Carrie’s Log in her own eye?…why the tape of course…its not the fact that she gave her answer which is her right as an american. That’s all well and good…its what she did afterwards by joining with the NOm people and doing all those interviews while she was still Miss CA which violated her contract. I don’t think Jesus would approve of that…but she didnt get that same “dont do this carrie” voice did she. She also didn’t get that voice when she in this new bit of news…when she was played a tape of her masturbating …and said “that’s disgusting” untill she saw it was her doing it…then she settled. Its being a hypocrite when you make self j/o tapes and you LIE to pateant officals saying you made no such tape.

In Prejean’s instance, it’s hypocritical because she used the Bible and her faith to back up her anti-marriage-equality stance. I’m pretty sure that the Christian tradition she was brought up in would not her to have sex before marriage. So, again, in this instance: she’s picking and choosing which parts of her faith are worthy of following.

“But she was younger when that tape came out. Can’t she make mistakes?”

Sure. Where it gets dicey for me, though, is that she claimed this Bible-belief that allowed her to be anti-marriage-equality was long-held. So, when she made that mistake, it was within the confines of a faith that she should have turned to for support in working through the urges to be filmed while in the middle of a sex act sans husband.

That’s right, geroni! We believe that marriage should be between a woman and her cameraman! Wait… the man running the camera WAS her husband, right? Because a woman with fake boobs pleasuring herself in front of a man who she isn’t married to is kinda destructive of opposite-marriage, ain’t it?

Larry Craig, Ted Haggard, David Vitter, Two-marriages Rush, Three-marriages Newt… and the opposite-marriage crowd is just now realizing that maybe they aren’t picking the best role-models for their cause? Really? Just now you notice that? Carrie Prejean isn’t some anomaly, she’s just the latest episode of a long, long series of hypocrites. But I guess it is nice that you have picked up on it… Step One is admitting you have a problem.

  10. I am completely in agreement with Nathan Hale. What must Dr. James Dobson and his Focus on the Family cronies be thinking right about now? Remember how they held Carrie Prejean out as the ideal of Christian womanhood? I read an opinion piece http://wp.me/pChUJ-5C by an evangelical preacher (believe it or not) who used to work in Christian Radio. He talks about how Dobson is notorious in broadcasting for his defensiveness, his screwed-up priorities, and his weird obsession with church-ified celebrities. He also gives an insider’s look at the sweetheart relationship between Dobson, Focus on the Family, and this pitiful, disgraced beauty queen. Turns out even some Christians have had enough of Dobson and Prejean. We need to back off the celebrity worship and worship the One True God instead.
